Why Is Fast Fashion Unsafe For Our Planet?
Fast fashion is bad because it uses resources that are running out and uses elements that are not sustainable such as certain materials that are destroying our environment. In addition to this, the world will consume over 80 billion items of clothing per year which cause a lot of pollution in the world. Many people will buy an item of clothing and wear it once or twice and then throw it out. This is resource pollution and also waste pollution and the problem remains that many people throw clothes out too quickly. It can also affect our environment. Due to chemists and high energy input used in factories, many companies use non-biodegradable materials that consume water and will not break down for thousands of years. This may lead to more landfills. Other chemicals may include pesticides, fertilizers, and more, which can also affect the health of animals and us as humans.
How To Help
Look at buying in different areas. Look at goodwill and charity shops, you can find lots of unique pieces at a fraction of the price of the high street and many items can be vintage. All clothing in shops like this are washed and usually in good condition and it is benefiting a charity as well as the planet and your bank account!
There is no guarantee of finding exactly what you want or being able to stick to trends, but often, people look much better wearing things that suit them and not what society tells them to wear. Look at what suits you, look at what colors work well for you, and don’t be pressured by society. Be sure to recycle clothing property or donate if you want to declutter your wardrobe. This can be a great way to continue the healthy cycle and stop clothing from going to landfills. Donate to friends and family.
Any type of recycling is going to be beneficial to the planet. So look at what materials are being used, sustainable materials include: linen, cotton, organic hemp; these are great clothing also as they are breathable also as well as very comfortable.
