Do you wish for a more minimalist wardrobe? Why not make a minimalist capsule wardrobe that includes versatile pieces meant to last the test of time? This is a question I see a lot, especially on TikTok. This is probably because the minimalist fashion trend is in full force.

A capsule wardrobe is a smaller collection of clothes you can mix and match for multiple outfits. It can be as simple as ten items or as many as 50. The idea behind it is that it allows you to spend more quality time with your clothes instead of wasting time searching through piles of clothing for the right outfit.

Minimalism isn't about having no possessions but rather about owning fewer items and using those things better. To start building your own capsule wardrobe, think about what types of clothes you wear most often and what styles fit your day-to-day life best. For example, if you work in an office setting with formal dress codes, you should invest in classic black work pants instead of buying denim jeans every season or two.

For those who want to experience the comfort and ease of owning a limited number of clothing items, we created a step-by-step guide with core closet essentials to build the perfect minimalist style wardrobe. Take a look!

The Ultimate Guide To Build The Perfect Minimalist Closet

So, how do you create a minimalist closet that works for you? Here are some tips:

1) Get rid of any clothing that doesn't fit right or isn't flattering on your body type.

2) Figure out what types of clothing you need in your life (e.g., work clothes, weekend outfits).

3) Buy versatile items so they can be worn together for different outfit ideas.

4) Invest in high quality pieces that will last a long time.

5) The color palette depends on your personal style. If you prefer neutral colors, choose neutral tones like black, grey, and brown for most of your items. If you like bright colors and prints, try picking one or two pieces in each color category (e.g., red, blue, and green) — this will give you enough options without having too many clothing pieces in each category.

6) Next, choose suitable fabrics and colors for your clothes. This is important because it allows you to mix and match them easily without worrying about clashing colors or patterns. For example, navy blue pants will go well with various tops such as white shirts or black t-shirts. We recommend picking 3-5 colors from which most of your outfits will be made up from (without limiting yourself too much). These colors should flatter your skin tone, hair color, & body shape.

7) Start with a clean slate. Get rid of everything you don't love or never wear. If it's not serving a purpose, let it go! If you aren't sure whether something has value in your life, ask yourself if it would make the cut if you were to move tomorrow.
8) Create a plan for what you want your wardrobe to look like. Think about what kind of clothes and accessories you want and when you plan to buy them — such as every season or every few months. This will help keep things organized and prevent buying unnecessary items (and spending money).

Step 1: Buy the super basic but essential items

The first step is to start with capsule wardrobe basics. The essential pieces can include basic crew neck tees, white shirts, accessories, pairs of jeans, and black high-top sneakers. Of course, this can vary depending on your individual style.

You can add more items from this starting point, but make sure you have some of these pieces of clothing first. Also, ensure you take a minimalist approach with this because the idea is to create a small number of outfits with only the essentials and then use accessories and other items to change your look in different ways.

Step 2: Add Seasonal Items

The second step is adding seasonal items to your capsule wardrobes, such as sweaters, jackets, and coats. These items can be added during certain seasons (like the winter season) without worrying about quickly leaving out of style because they are seasonal pieces. We love adding a chunky knit sweater to our winter wardrobe because it is the best option for casual wear & layering, which means this piece will definitely be of good use.

Step 3: Transitional pieces

The third step is adding transitional pieces such as cardigans and blazers into your capsule wardrobe because they can be worn year-round during cooler months or warmer months, depending on where you live. For example, if you live in Upstate New York as I do, it gets pretty cold here during winter. So I added some transitional pieces like long-sleeved sweaters, heavy coats, and boots so I can wear them through all four seasons of the year without needing new clothes.

Step 4: Trendy Pieces

The fourth step is adding trendy pieces to your capsule wardrobes, such as shorts and skirts. A certain number of items, like a little black dress, can be used on special occasions or formal events. We highly recommend investing in classic styles and silhouettes.

The good thing about having such a limited wardrobe is that it forces you to be creative with what you wear and grab key pieces — which is always a good idea to build a perfect capsule wardrobe!
