01) Paella

The Spanish classic of paella is one of those dishes that look so impressive and tend to taste great too. However, they are actually effortless to throw together. A good one to start with is a basic chorizo and prawn paella. All you need to do is fry some garlic, onion, and tomato - ideally in a paella pan, though it's not absolutely necessary. Then, add the paella rice and stock, and leave it to simmer. The trick is not to stir it - if anything, you want a crust on the bottom that is slightly burned.

02) Pizza

Everyone loves pizza, and the good news is that it is straightforward to make a pizza from scratch at home. If you have never done this before and you don't have any experience with making bread dough, then it might take a little practice. But generally, it's easier than you might think. To make pizza, you just need to combine your flour with water and yeast, and a little salt and mix them together before kneading. Then leave it to rise, and prepare your toppings in the meantime. That's where it gets really fun, and you can create any topping combinations you like.

03) Beef Stroganoff

Have you ever tried making a stroganoff before? Again it's the kind of thing where the results make it seem a lot more difficult to throw together than it really is, so it's a great one that you might want to learn at some point or another. It is kind of like a beef stew, but you will want to make sure you are using tender meat and lots of mushrooms if you want to pack it with flavor. Also, consider adding some good quality wine into the mix if you want it to have a little kick as well as a rounded taste.

04) Veggie Korma

Curries are great to learn because they are endlessly versatile. You can always rely on one to fill you up, making it a great option if you don't know what else to cook. A good curry to start with is a veggie korma, primarily a coconut-based curry with plenty of vegetables in it too. With this kind of curry in your repertoire, you will always be able to make something unique that everyone is going to love, so it really is a great one to have on board.
