Can I get smarter overnight?

Being smart is great, but it doesn’t happen overnight. However, you can create healthy habits that can help boost your intelligence and nurture your mind.

Most smart people actually follow daily rituals to maintain their smartness—practicing simple habits such as exercising, reading, or even hanging out with people who are more intelligent than you can benefit you.

Our body and mind are wonderful things, and over the years, we have discovered that there are certain hacks that we can use to make it work better. Here are some of the ways you can make yourself smarter without having to study for a Ph.D.

SLEEP

Who would have thought that sleeping is responsible for being smarter? Getting enough sleep is responsible for a lot of things, intelligence included. The unfortunate thing is, we beat ourselves up if we sleep too much. Getting 8 hours a night seems almost criminal when it is necessary. It’s time to put aside the idea that working loads means sacrificing our sleep. We need to be working smarter, not harder.

EXERCISE

Exercising is one of those things that might seem like the opposite of getting smart, but it isn’t. When you exercise, your brain and body are flooded with endorphins. These don’t just make you happy; they help you to prioritize what is happening around you. This is why people work out first thing in the morning to get the endorphins flowing and get a better head start in the day. So the next time you try to talk yourself out of a morning workout, just remember it is good for your brain.

PLAY WORD GAMES

This is probably one of the best-known hacks on the list, but people rarely do it. Mental games such as Sudoku and crosswords have long been claimed to help people maintain a mental health advantage. Playing games with friends, such as Scrabble, is another way to get the brain juices flowing. If you think you are not good enough to have a go at these games, using an aid such as scrabble cheat can help you out. Once you have the hang of it, you will be spitting out words with your eyes closed.

MEDITATE

They say that you should meditate for 30 minutes a day, an hour if you are busy. Meditation is quickly becoming the go-to way to get your brain in gear and not focus on life’s negatives. Sure, it’s not going to make it go away, but it can help us deal with it a bit better. If you are new to meditation, plenty of apps can help you and guide you through some calming techniques.

PLAY AN INSTRUMENT

This is the favorite thing on our listen because learning to play a musical instrument is great fun. It doesn’t matter what instrument it is, from the basic recorder to the cello, playing an instrument is great for your mental health and can make you smarter. Learning to read music is a skill that requires a lot of brainpower, along with learning to move your hand in a way that makes sounds and sometimes regulates your breathing. That’s a lot to master. Setting aside some time a few times a week to learn can have massive benefits. You don't need to have started playing as a child, you can start anytime.
