7 Ways To Make Your Home Feel Bigger

01) Add sliding doors

It is typical for most homes to feature push or pull doors. Although these are functional and convenient, they are not space-saving.

weathered barn door is a great way to add interest and space to your room. Instead of pulling or pushing the door to open into a room, you can slide it across, giving you more freedom to move. Although you might not think it, adding a sliding door to the inside of your home can make a huge difference to the spaciousness.

02) Remove clutter

It is highly beneficial to move clutter from your entire home. Although you might like to hold onto old belongings and be surrounded by ‘stuff,’ it isn’t going to do your spaciousness any favors. The more minimal and organized your home is, the roomier it will feel.

It is best to start with one room - or cupboard - at a time. If you attempt to declutter the entire home at once, you will quickly feel overwhelmed. Slowly but surely, you can make your way around the whole house and declutter every space. Also, giving your old belongings to charity or a dear friend will encourage you to get rid of stuff as you will know it is going to a good home.

03) Keep it tidy

Alongside decluttering, it is highly beneficial to keep your space tidy. If you allow the sides and floors to become cluttered and messy, it will hinder the spaciousness of your home. The more often you tidy up after yourself, the less work you will have to do. Therefore, keep on top of your tidying to make your home clean and spacious.

04) Knock down a wall

If you own your home, you will have the option to adjust its interior space. It is possible to knock down certain walls in a home to open up the space.

For example, you might have a wall between your kitchen and living space. If you wish to have more space and achieve an open-plan living area, knock down the wall to open it up. You can easily make your home more spacious by removing walls. It will allow more light in and not restrict your movement between each room.

05) Add more lights

Although your home might be light enough during the day due to having large windows and no window coverings, it is best to add more lights if you want the space to feel larger.

The more lights you have in your home, the more airy and bright it will feel all day. For example, you might feel your home is spacious throughout the day in the summer, but when the evenings or winter draws in, it feels small and dingy. Hence, adding more lights - that mimic natural light - will help to make the space feel bigger no matter the time of year or time of day.

06) Add plenty of mirrors

The more mirrors your home features, the more spacious it will feel. Mirrors help to bounce light around a room - natural or artificial - which will help to make the space feel and look more prominent.

You can add mirrors to walls to avoid hindering the floor space. You can add them to every room in the house as mirrors are convenient anywhere. If you do not wish to add mirrors on every wall or room, it can help to add mirrored decorative objects, as these will have a similar effect.

07) Avoid using dark colors

Although you might enjoy dark colors, they will not make your space airy or spacious. The lighter the colors are throughout your home, the roomier it will feel. It is a good idea to use white or light beige on the walls and throughout the home to make a space feel bigger.

If you wish to feature dark pieces, you can. You can add smaller objects and features to create contrast and ensure you get to feature your favorite colors throughout your home. It is good for it to feel personal as well as spacious.

By following these simple tips, you can feel more comfortable in your home, regardless of size. The most vital thing to remember is that size isn't everything when it comes to your home. You can make any space seem bigger by utilizing the right decor and colors, making things feel as open as possible, and minimizing clutter. Remember these tips, and enjoy living in a roomy flat or house!
