01) Take Good Care of Your Skin
First, if you want your makeup to last as long as possible, it needs to be applied to a canvas that is as clean as possible, which means taking good care of your skin. As a minimum, you should be cleansing twice daily and exfoliating at least twice a week to remove excess oils and dead skin, and moisturize daily. Once you have done this, your makeup will have the ideal base to adhere to.
02) Use A Primer
If you are serious about making your makeup last longer, you must also get serious about primer. This is one beauty product you should never skip because it will smooth out your skin and perfect that blank canvas you started with your skincare regime. If possible, try to use an oil-free primer, as that is less likely to cause the makeup sliding effect that we are all so familiar with.
03) Choose An Oil-Free Foundation
It's also a really good idea to use an oil-free foundation for the same reason. It will stay in place better, as will any additional products like eyeshadow and blusher that you apply on top of it. If you can also buy the best foundation you can afford, you will find that it is more likely to stay put than cheaper alternatives too.
04) Layer Your Makeup
Another thing that will give your makeup staying power is applying it in thin layers. This means everything from your primer to your foundation to your setting powder (setting spray is actually a better option if you want your makeup to stay all day in many cases). Instead of laying it on thick, apply a tiny amount and build up the layers until you have the look you want. Not only will this help to give your look longevity, but it will also give you a more natural finish.
05) Use A Setting Product
As mentioned above, you really need to use a setting product to ensure that your makeup lasts as long as possible. A translucent setting powder or high-quality setting spray will remove any excess oil on your face that might cause your makeup to slip, so you can be confident your look will remain fresh all day.
06) Use Waterproof Products
If you can use waterproof makeup products like mascara, then it is sensible to do so because it does rain quite a lot in this country, and when it does, it can cause your makeup to smudge. If it is waterproof, however, that will not be a problem, and you will not have to worry about fixing your face every time you step outside.
07) Use A Priming Spray
If you not only want your makeup to stay in place all day, but you want it to look as bright and bold all day as it did when you first applied it, then a priming spray is a must, particularly when it comes to eye makeup.
08) Apply Vaseline Before The Perfume
Perfume is actually categorized as a cosmetic. If you also want to make sure that your perfume lasts all day, then a little trick you should remember is to apply a thin layer of vaseline to every place you spray perfume. Do this before spritzing on your scent, and it will help the perfume stick to your skin and keep you smelling fresh and fragrant for far longer than before. It might sound weird, but it really does work, and it can save you a fortune in perfume costs over the years by ensuring you do not need to keep topping it up all day.
09) Stop Touching your Face
It's obvious, but the more often you touch your face throughout the day, the more likely you are to smudge your eyeliner or rub off your foundation, so if you can get out of the habit of doing so, it will definitely help you to keep your makeup in place for much longer. It will be much better for your skin, too, because touching your face often can spread bacteria to your face.
10) Use A Lip Liner
Using a lip liner is one of the easiest ways to make your lipstick last longer, and it's also an excellent tip for those days when you want to wear bright lipstick but don't want it to bleed outside of your lips. If you're wearing matte lipstick, use a lip liner similar in color to your lipstick and trace it around your lips. If you're wearing non-matte lipstick, choose a matching lip liner slightly darker than your lipstick's color. This will help prevent the color from bleeding outside of its intended area.
